ORP Probes
Redox Combination Electrodes
A redox combination electrode also known as a ORP (oxidation-reduction potential) probe
measures the tendency of a chemical species in a solution to aquire or lose electrons generating a millivolt potential
based on the oxidation or reduction potential respectively displayed in millivolts (mV) by the redox
controller, the electrode consists of a platinum sensor that interacts with the solution and a reference electrode (often
Ag/AgCl) providing a stable known potential against which the platinum sensing electrode can be measured.
Dependent on the
intended application electrodes are manufactured in various shaft materials: - Glass Electrodes - Polycarbonate
Electrodes - Epoxy Electrodes
Single Junction Redox Eelectrodes
Single junction redox electrodes combines a platinum sensing electrode
with a reference electrode (Ag/AgCI) with the junction being made of a porous material allowing an electrical
contact between the platinum sensing electrode and reference electrode completing the circuit allowing for measurement,
single junction electrodes are generally less expensive by combining both electrodes into a single unit it simplifies
functionality whilst retaining excellent reliabliliy delivering highly accurate repeatable measurement results.
Double Junction Redox Eelectrodes
Double junction redox electrodes has two chambers and junctions
the reference electrode is isolated from the sample solution for protection against contamination with redox potential measured
by the difference in electrical potential between the reference electrode and sensing electrode, double junction electrodes
are particularly well-suited for measuring samples that contain substances such as proteins and heavy metals that might
react with or clog the reference electrode solution prolonging the electrodes lifespan.
Redox (ORP) Probe
The term redox (orp) probe is often referred to as a redox electrode however probes
are generally designed as a complete device often incorporating additional components such as a temperature sensor
and housing effectively the entire assembly to determine the oxidation-reduction potential of the sample solution.
Redox (ORP) Sensor
The phrase redox senor refers to either an electrode, probe or device used to
determine the oxidation-reduction potential of a sample solution for redox measurement.
